Mel has been practicing everything ‘yoga’ since her lengthy sojourn in India 15 years ago. While based at the Sivananda ashram in Kerala, Mel not only focused on the postures of yoga but meditation, breath work and every other positive experience yoga has to offer and spontaneously stayed on for her first of many teacher trainings. Mel then trained with Nicole Walsh & Baron Baptiste in the style of Power Yoga, Twee Merrigan in the style of Vinyasa Flow and Paul Grilley in the form of Yin Yoga – (her current passion.)
This training gave her the platform she needed to find her own teaching style, which is able and of modern Western/traditional Indian and Taoist approaches. Incorporated into her current passion of Yin Yoga offered as regular classes & teacher training, is her love of metaphysics to a teacher training level – Acu energetics to level 2 and Taoist philosophy. Such was the impact that Yin Yoga style of practicing had on Mel’s old car crash injuries and subsequent pain and issues from that, she felt the need to experience for herself, study deeply the anatomy and physiology and modern meridian theory (Dr. Motoyama) and offer it as a compliment to a stronger vinyasa style flow that is so popular.
Thrilled that Yin is now gaining in popularity she has developed a training course for teachers that incorporates all aspects of Yin Yoga – plus what she found helpful to teach that effectively in the broader sense of physical, astral and causal bodies. An honored ambassador of Lululemon Athletica, she also regularly contributes to Australian Yoga Journal, Women’s health and Women’s fitness magazines. Now happily settled into the eastern beaches of Sydney, she was proud to be a founding director of This Is Yoga and currently online at The Yin Space. You can still find her in person teaching at this is Yoga Clovelly as well as InYoga in Surry Hills for yin yoga classes/teacher trainings/retreats and private tuition.
